JOB SUMMARY:
Applies, and provides quality circulatory and extracorporeal technology techniques in the operating room and throughout the organization for patient care. This technology includes but is not limited to: cardiopulmonary bypass; autologous blood recovery/blood conservation, platelet gel, ventricular support; left heart bypass; intra-aortic balloon pumping; cardiopulmonary assist; extra corporeal membrane oxygenation; counter pulsation; myocardial preservation; anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysis; induction of hyper/hypothermia with reversal; hem dilution; hemofiltration; administration of medications, blood components and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit; organ preservation and surgical assisting.
Serves in the role of educator to various groups regarding services rendered and care for patients requiring cardiovascular perfusion. Responsible for ordering, stocking and maintaining organization and inventory of perfusion supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:
-Three to five years

EDUCATION:
-Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
-Strong science background and advanced training in circulation technology from a CAHEP accredited program OR Graduate of Perfusion Training program prior to 1980.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and/or the Internal Board of Clinical Technologies (must be completed within 1 year of hire - new graduates).
Licensed Perfusionist by the Texas Dept. of Health (must be completed within 1 year of hire- new graduates).
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) provider.
Advanced principles and techniques of circulation technology.
Interpersonal skills necessary to work with physicians, hospital employees, patients, family members, and community professionals.
Must possess exceptional critical thinking skills and deal with extreme pressure and stress.

EXPOSURE CATEGORY
-Category II - Indicates intermediate risk job classifications in which some employees have occupational exposure, depending on the task they are performing. Normally, their job tasks do not involve the exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials but occasionally they may be required to perform an exposure task as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
-Light Work: Lifting 20 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
-Works in an office environment and may involve periods of prolonged sitting at a computer
-Typical work hours can vary depending on workload and deliverables
